If you're an adult, you can have up to one ounce of marijuana for personal use in private without getting in trouble. You can also have up to 16 ounces of marijuana-infused solid products and 72 ounces of liquid marijuana products. However, if you consume marijuana in public, you'll get a fine, and consuming it in a moving vehicle is a traffic infraction. If you're carrying marijuana in a car, it must be in a sealed container in the trunk, glove compartment, or an area that isn't accessible to the driver or passengers, according to traffic safety laws.
If you're caught with one ounce to 40 grams of marijuana, you could be punished with a minimum of 24 hours in jail and a maximum of 90 days, as well as a $250 fine for the first offense and a $500 fine for subsequent offenses. Additionally, you could be fined up to $1,000. You can't get out of the mandatory fine or imprisonment unless you're found to be indigent, or your imprisonment poses a significant risk to your physical or mental health or the jail is overcrowded.
If you have more than 40 grams of marijuana, you could be charged with a class C felony, which can result in up to 5 years of imprisonment and/or a fine up to $10,000. You'll also be fined an extra $1,000 for a first-time offense and $2,000 for subsequent offenses.
