Let there be no need to spike to spike the eggnog this Thanksgiving holiday. As a recovering alcoholic I can attest to a number of Thanksgiving meals that served as yet another occasion for me to get drunk. I did this knowing that other family members were fighting alcohol addiction and these gatherings were to remain alcohol-free.

Don’t take this the wrong way, I certainly think in situations where there are no addiction issues, a glass of wine or champagne is perfectly acceptable. My point is – alcohol does not need to be a part of the Thanksgiving feast.

Why do we celebrate all of our holidays with alcohol? Alcohol has become as much a part of Thanksgiving as turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and cranberries.

Having been sober for many years, I assure you that it is possible to give thanks and enjoy this important celebration without alcohol.

I encourage each of you, my loyal readers, to enjoy an alcohol-free Thanksgiving. I might further encourage you to take an 8-hour online alcohol class – it may help convince you alcohol may not be the best thing to try and enjoy.
