Signs You May Need a Drug Class

by Mike Miller November 7, 2012

Are you or someone you care about addicted to drugs or alcohol? Do you have suspicions that abuse may be happening but are not quite sure? There are definitely some tell-tale signs of addiction and substance abuse.

This is the third in a series of blogs addressing some of the warning signs of addiction. In our previous blog we looked at the most obvious sign – lies. As reported in newswatch.nationalgeographic.com.

Who do you hang out with?

A second sign that someone may have addiction issues is an examination of friends and acquaintances. If someone hangs around alcoholics or drug users there is a strong likelihood there are substance abuse issues. Let’s face it, addiction, like misery, loves company.

Whenever a person starts using heavily his or her peer-group will change, often quite quickly. This is because people who do not share the addict’s vice will generally become concerned and/or alienated. Hanging out with stoners or alcoholics is a life-style choice that will generally bring with it a specific and narrow peer selection.

As a counselor for both in-class and online drug classes this one of the easiest ways for me to tell who has substance abuse issues. My students may try to deny their problem, but if their close friends are users and abusers, there is a strong chance they are too.

If you or someone you care about shows either of the first two signs we have examined I urge you to seek help immediately. A drug class is a good place to start. If you prefer to maintain anonymity there are also 8 hour online drug classes.
